Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Will JET Performance Power Tuning Improve My Fuel Mileage?
  • A. JET Performance Power Tuning wont change your diesel's calibrations that is detrimental to fuel economy. Fuel economy stays for the most part unchanged but can be improved (depending upon specific driving patterns) as long as you don't have a heavy foot. In towing applications, JET Performance's Power Tuning works to increase mileage. In general, pertaining to gains in power, a diesel used for towing equipped with JET Performance will more often show increases in mileage over diesels without Jet Performance tuning.

Q. What About My Diesel's Factory Warranty?
  • A. Not to worry. A dealer that voids your warranty because you are using aftermarket speed equipment is in violation of Federal Law; with only two exceptions: the dealer can void your warranty if the aftermarket part harms or adversely affects the emissions or the emissions system.

Q. What performance increase can I expect from JET Performance Tuning?
  • A. JET Performance carefully dyno and track tests each Jet Performance item. The testing Jet Performance employs lets JET dial in the best possible tuning. Power gains vary with each diesel engine type and the weight of the truck. In most cases, power gains are seen from 10 Horsepower to over 50 Horsepower on super-charged or turbo-charged engines. 0 - 60 M.P.H. gains are regularly about 1/2 second.

Q. Should I Use Stage 1 or Stage 2 Power Tuning?
  • A. Stage 1 Tuning is used mostly for stock or mildly modified diesel vehicles. Fuel and timing curves are modified for optimal performance and fuel efficiency in vehicles using mid-grade fuel (89+ octane). Stage 1 Tuning is perfect for daily driving, towing and street performance. Jet Performance Stage 1 Tuning shows gains in horsepower, torque, acceleration and throttle response. No other modifications to your diesel vehicle are needed. Stage 1 programming works with most aftermarket upgrades without using premium fuels.

Stage 2 is engineered for performance enthusiasts. Stage 2 uses aggressive tuning to create the most horsepower and torque available. Jet Performance Stage 2 programming requires the use of 91 octane fuel to optimize the advanced timing curves, a 180 degree thermostat for a denser air/fuel mixture and a free flow exhaust system to reduce back-pressure. Stage 2 improves the performance of aftermarket intake systems, mass air sensors, TBI spacers, etc.

Q. Why Doesn't the OEM Factory Tune the Way Jet Does?
  • A. Factory tuning is set with the average driver in mind and is designed to withstand an array of operating conditions and driving styles. As a result, OEM calibrations are specifically set to reduce power for drivers who use low quality fuel and/or fail to properly maintain their vehicles. Performance enthusiasts that carefully maintain their vehicles use only mid-grade or premium fuels. JET Performance tuning optimizes the fuel curves over the whole RPM band, idle to redline, for maximum power and performance.

Q. Jet Performance Diesel Power Tuning Could Possibly Harm My Engine, Right?
  • A. Not at all. Optimal power is achieved when air/fuel ratio and the spark tuning has been tuned for maximum power. In other words; maximum force applied on the piston during each power stroke. Engine damage occurs if the air/fuel ratio is too lean, meaning that there is less fuel for the volume of air in the cylinder. This results in super heated air, which causes burned valves and pistons and will eventually cause detonation (which can crack or shatter pistons, etc.) Over-advanced timing will cause detonation also, which reduces power and can damage parts in the same way that a lean ratio does. With JET Performance on your vehicle, your engine will run at maximum efficiency yet safely distanced from possible damage due to leanness or over-advanced timing.

Q. Can I still install other aftermarket equipment with Jet Performance?
  • A. Jet Performance has programs available for aftermarket intake manifolds, camshafts, large mass air-flow sensors, nitrous oxide systems, superchargers and turbo systems. JET Performance Custom Programs are essential with any of those modifications for both tremendous power gains over stock tuning as well as to eliminate the probability of lean air/fuel ratios and excessive spark advance which are death to modified engines. Mild modifications such as high-flow air filters, cold air intake systems, cat back systems and TBI spacers work perfectly with our Stage 1 or Stage 2 Power Tuning without the need of a custom program.

Q. How does JET Performance Power Tuning work?
  • A. JET Performance tunes the stock computer to give maximum power and torque at the most efficient levels. With JET Performance Power, tuning can come by way of a chip that simply replaces or piggy-backs the OEM computer chip, a chip that plugs into the rear of the OEM computer, or a module that retrieves and alters the signal from the OEM computer. The information stored in the chip controls all engine specs like air/fuel ratio, timing advance, shift points and firmness, top speed, rev limit, and axle ratio. Sensors also monitor engine and transmission RPM, manifold air pressure, mass air flow, coolant temperature, intake air temperature and other parameters. These sensors send information to the computer which uses that information along with the info stored on the chip to deliver the optimum performance at the end at that instant in time.

Q. Are JET Performance Chips emissions legal?
  • A. Yes. All JET Performance Chips and most Performance Modules are 50 state emissions legal. They do not change the emissions at all from the stock tuning chip for any Federal or local emissions test. C.A.R.B. (California Air Resources Board) has issued Executive Order numbers D-234 through D-234-6 covering all JET Performance Power Chips, making JET Performance chips the most complete line of high-performance chips that can legally be sold, installed, and driven in the state of California. Because of C.A.R.B.'s very rigid rules concerning exhaust emissions, the Environmental Protection Agency ( E.P.A. ) accepts C.A.R.B. approval as evidence that an aftermarket part is clean and suitable for use in all other 49 states.

Q. Can I change or delete the speed and rev limiters with a Jet Performance Chip?
  • A. The option to remove the speed limiter and in most cases modify the rev limiter is a feature of Jet Performance Chips, but JET modules will not remove the limiters. Speed limiters are based on the speed rating of the OEM tires and changing these limits can be done but only at your own risk! In some cases the limiters can be removed with custom programming, contact JET with your vehicle specifications to be sure.
