Bully Dog was founded in 1998 in Aberdeen, Idaho by Michael, Phillip, and Daryl Klassen, in the interest of improving diesel vehicle performance. Several years prior to the company's founding, a farmer had been milling around with the idea of increasing the performance of his diesel farm tractor by injecting propane into the engine's combustion chamber. This inspired the Bully Dog founders who took this concept, expounded upon it and patented a safe, effective propane injection system to enhance the performance of diesel engines.
These new propane systems were retailed out of a farm shop originally, but as the demand increased for new diesel innovation, the Klassens moved the company and officially organized Bully Dog. The Bully Dog quest was now being seen as the most important name in the diesel performance industry, which in turn motivated them to stay current and make advancements on new technology in the industry.
With electronic components and software to improve performance now on the market, Bully Dog began researching new types of diesel performance products; intake and exhaust systems to supplement those advanced electronic performance components, providing the capability of Bully Dog to offer complete diesel performance packages. Then, in 2005, Bully Dog augmented its scope of products to include performance products for gasoline engines.
Product innovation is an essential element to Bully Dog. In the past 12 years, Bully Dog has been first to market over 100 vehicle-specific products, received numerous awards for revolutionary products. Also in 2005, with the release of the Triple Dog™ Downloader and Outlook™ Monitor, Bully Dog revolutionized the market with the capability to adjust power, safety and economy levels from the cab while driving down the road.
