AFE Intercoolers

An intercooler is an apparatus employed to cool
air that has been compressed in a combustion
engine. It is typically used in turbo-charged or
super-charged engines. An intercooler
offsets the unwanted heat brought on by super-charging or turbo-charging an engine. When air is cooled, it becomes more compact. This increased density makes it possible for more air and fuel to enter into the cylinder, which in the end boosts the output power of the engine.

From a technical perspective, an intercooler is a device applied between stages of super-charging or turbo-charging to chill the air for use in the following stage. If the device is used at the end of the supercharging cycle, it is called an aftercooler. Regardless of this distinction, the two names are frequently used interchangeably.
